USE CASES

You don't want to close it. But you need to step away.

MUGSHOT is a supplementary tool for short absences when you want to leave your PC running. It keeps work going while monitoring supported power-state changes and related events.

  • Stepping away for a few minutes at a café

    For a short absence when closing the PC is awkward, it can move to an alarm after a supported event such as external-power removal.

  • Keep a job running with the screen open

    When you don't want to stop a build, export, or upload, leave the work running while the App monitors supported power-state changes and related events.

  • In a lounge or waiting area while traveling

    Airports, stations, event venues — busy places with lots of people coming and going. It eases the worry of leaving a charging laptop unattended.

CAPABILITIES

Deterrence, awareness, and evidence in one experience.

  • Power tamper detection

    While the App is running, a supported power-cable or charge-state change can move it to the alarm state.

  • Evidence capture

    Only when explicitly enabled by the user, one still photo is stored temporarily on the device for a breach. The App does not perform face recognition, face matching, or continuous recording.

  • ntfy notifications

    Public builds send text notifications through ntfy. Uploading evidence photos is disabled.

  • Passcode + biometrics

    Combines local PBKDF2 verification with device authentication. The unlock flow stays entirely on your device.

  • Multi-platform roadmap

    Development uses a shared Flutter codebase. Only the macOS preview is being prepared as a distribution candidate; iOS, Android, and Windows are also in preparation.

We are preparing the releases for each OS. As soon as they are ready, you will be able to download them from this page.

Important: monitoring works only while the App is running. It does not continue after quit, forced termination, OS shutdown, or restart, and does not resume automatically. Android, macOS, and Windows may temporarily change system output volume for an alarm and attempt restoration; either can fail. iOS volume is not changed.
